Tasks

IONOS Cloud is a machine with many moving parts. Dozens of software components interact to deliver the services offered. We are creating a new team to better manage and monitor this machine and improve the existing tooling and level of automation. To this end, we are looking for a team leader with solid experience in people management and a strong technical background. We primarily rely on Kubernetes operators and cloud-native software such as ArgoCD, OpenBAO, Prometheus, Golang etc. In-house developments are also common.

Like a spaceship or an aeroplane, we don't just need mechanics with oil cans, but also a head of engineering who can guide the team and continuously improve the whole process, build new tools where needed and provide the necessary support for the other teams to excel. In our matrix organisation, we work as one team and support partners in areas such as: Customer Service, Product Developers or Operations teams.

The underlying idea and goal is to end up with a self-healing ‘desired state’ system that is controlled by GitOps and offers all products and components standardised processes and a reusable tool landscape. If necessary, we help other teams with this transition - including possible containerisation, immutable infrastructure, idempotent interfaces, etc. The PaaS SRE team will include software development, operations and infrastructure engineering. Our Flight Engineers will also regularly ‘fly along’ in other teams to better understand their respective engine rooms.

For this team, we are looking for an experienced team leader with leadership experience who has a strong drive to improve their environment through software and is not afraid of operational responsibility for existing systems.

In the PaaS SRE team, you will find software development, operations and infrastructure engineering.

Your responsibilities will include:

• People Leadership responsibilities such as: Recruiting, Hiring and Coaching a team of 5 Engineers, Talent Development, Personnel Management.
• Development management for internal tooling, in consultation with stakeholders - such as the architects.
• "Product owner" or maintainer for internal tools.
• Participation in the overall architecture.
• Incident, Operations and change management
• Ensuring the smooth operation of multiple platforms.
• Unification and optimization of these platforms and processes.

Qualifications

• Agile mindset, and experience with modern software development methods.
• Management experience, ideally in both software development and IT platform operations.
• Sound knowledge of software development, preferably with GoLang.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud environments and Kubernetes.
• Experience in operating IT platforms based on Linux and Kubernetes.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• German at a C1+ level.
• Enjoy supporting and caring for your own team.
• "Show must go on" mentality.
